Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove was great! The staff is amazing, friendly, and helpful. We came in with an engine problem, and Bill had a mechanic on the problem that day! They were wonderful to work with. Allie and Bill were so accommodating! We will definitely be back!

Great marina. Dock Master Ali was certainly among the best we’ve encountered. Good facilities and credit card washer dryers which is always a bonus over quarters. Salem is a fun town to visit and Hawthorn Cove is right in the thick of it.

We can’t say enough about this lovely marina. Alli went out of her way to make us feel welcomed as transients and members! She was able to work magic to let us stay on the dock with my bad knees and our pup. They had a lovely happy hour with live entertainment and free beer and sodas! Close to everything! Thank you for taking such good care of us!!!

Great place and staff, especially Allie. The wind and seas were going to be a little tough on the transient dock, so she moved us inside the marina and gave us great help in getting into the slip (lot of wind, dual rudder boat, not a lot of practice in those conditions). The facilities and location are terrific for exploring Salem from the boat.

This is our second trip in the last month. Both were on their transient moorings. Dave and his staff, Jim on the launch, and others I didn't get their names, are so kind and friendly and accomondating. We arrived with 6 adults, one baby and two dogs. The dogs needed to go ashore last launch at night and first in the morning and they were so great about that for us! Add complimentary donuts and coffee and it's a win! Thank you for the great hospitality! We'll be back!

Ally and team were excellent!! They had room on face dock to move us from a mooring, much appreciated! We will visit again. Very easy walk to restaurants and 7 Gables house. You should visit. We will be back

We have stayed here previously, but on a mooring ball. This trip we stayed on a dock. The team here is very helpful and friendly and communicated clearly and quickly, prior to our arrival! The marina location could be considered 'in-town' as it is only a few minutes walk to all you'd want to see and do.

Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove marina was great. They promptly responded to my questions before arrival. Upon arrival, by radio, they directed me to the end of the new concrete "T" dock where three dock hands were waiting to help grab our lines and tie us off. It was a bit of a long walk from our dock location to the marina office building where there are bathrooms with showers and also a Keruig coffee machine which was greatly appreciated in the morning. The location of the marina is only 2-3 blocks away from downtown Salem with many restaurants and shops. The area just near the "T" dock is very shallow a low tide so stay very close to the end of the "T" dock for the deepest water.

Dock staff were helpful and friendly. The docks are substantial and appear to be new. WiFi was strong. We were only there for 1 night but would happily stay again.

Recent improvements at Hawthorne cove are great with the new outer dock area. Staff is good but no one knew the wi-fi password and they couldn’t find a welcome packet for us. Still one of my favorite places to stay for a few days, but the price has gone way up and the service is not as good since Dockmaster Ben left.

Our first visit to Hawthorne Cove Marina instead Salem, MA. We stayed overnight on a mooring, and the location, launch service, facilities, and staff were all great. We will certainly be back!

About Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove

In the heart of one of the most historic towns in the country, Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove is a gateway to Salem’s eclectic culture and the popular North Shore. An atmosphere of rich maritime history combines with newly renovated facilities including a wave attenuating dock and state-of-the-art marine service center to create a distinctive New England home port

Directions

As you approach the mouth of Salem Harbor please contact us on VHF Channel 08. If coming in for a SLIP proceed to green daymark #23 at the edge of our mooring field for your slip assignment and instructions. From there proceed to green can 25. At green can 25, you will see the corner of our face dock, perpendicular to the ferry. A dockhand with a red shirt will come down to assist. Please be cautious of the Hazard markers just off of the face dock. This is a mud flat with 2' of water. DO NOT go in-between the hazard markers.

If coming in for a MOORING please hail us on VHF Ch. 08 at the mouth of Salem harbor and proceed to green daymark #23. You will either be told to hold your position there or proceed to daymark #2 depending on mooring assignment. Either the launch operator on duty or a dock staff member in a marina work boat will come and escort you to your transient mooring.

Navigation Considerations: Low water and mud exposed intertidal at Mean Low Water to the west of the fairway and marina's C dock towards Derby Wharf. Sand and mud not exposed at low water in front of Marina’s A&B Dock.
