About Sail Power & Steam Museum
Welcome to the Sail, Power, & Steam Museum Located on the historic site of the Old Snow Shipyard on Rockland's working waterfront, the Sail, Power, & Steam Museum celebrates and shares the story of Maine's maritime heritage along the shores of Penobscot Bay. Come explore our fascinating collections of marine and industrial photographs, exhibits, artifacts, and demonstrations — including steam engines that still puff along just like they did in their heyday, working boat models, and a functioning scale model of a historic lime kiln. Our in-water fleet includes the Friendship Sloops Black Jack and Persistence, Schooner Gem, and a Steam Launch, available for classes, day sails, and private charters (in season, by reservation).
Visiting boaters are welcome to pick up a guest mooring ball and spend the night right on Rockland Harbor — the perfect base for exploring everything the museum and Midcoast Maine have to offer. Through our Midcoast Sailing Center, we offer sailing classes, youth programs, and day sails on the bay. The museum also hosts Sunday Music Jams year-round, a summer folk concert series, and private event rentals on our waterfront tent, dock, and Wing On Wing Boathouse.
